Getting there

How do I get to Rote?

First you need to make your way to Kupang (West-Timor, KOE) by plane.

El Tari Airport in Kupang welcomes travellers from many different airports like Jakarta, Bali, Lombok or Surabaya.

If you fly in from Bali, the plane ride will take around 75min to get to Kupang. From there it is another 20min plane ride to Ba’a in Rote (RT). Tickets can be purchased through Traveloka.com or Tiket.com.

Please be aware that a surcharge for surfboards will apply by the airline. Check the airlines size restrictions for boards. If your board is bigger than 6.2 feet it may not be allowed on the plane.

Another option is to take the ferry from Kupang to Ba’a which takes about 2hrs but doesn’t go when it is too windy.

How do I get from the airport to Villa Tasi?

We can organise a local driver to pick you up from either the airport or the ferry in Ba’a. Just let us know in advance the time of your arrival and if you are travelling with surfboards.

The price per trip is around Rp 400 000 (for 4 people) to be paid directly to the driver.

Where is Villa Tasi located?

Villa Tasi is situated right on the beach in the village of Tunggaoen. This beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island with its white sand and crystal clear water.

The buildings are nestled between coconut trees and bougenvilleas and the smell of frangipani will make you feel right at home.

There is a lovely walkway along the beach right in front of the house that will invite you to go for a stroll in the mornings or afternoons.

Our guests love the location of Villa Tasi as it sits right between two of the most famous surf breaks in Rote. Both, T-land (Besialu) in Nemberala and Bo’a Break are only a short 10 minute motorbike ride away. A couple of smaller waves ( ideal for the kids) are walking distance away.

Getting Around

How do I get around on the island?

The best way to get around on the island is by motorbike. This makes it easy to explore different beaches and surf breaks. The motorbikes come with or without surfboard racks and we can connect you with a rental place.

It is also possible to hire a car with a driver for the day if that is more suitable.

Internet

Am I able to connect to the Internet?

More Info

Do I need to bring cash to Rote?

We advise all our guests to bring enough cash to Rote as there are no reliable ATM machines. It’s best to do all your banking in Bali, Kupang or Jakarta.

In case you need more cash we suggest you go to the minimart Melati in Nemberala.

What else should I bring to Rote with me?

Here are a few things you might want to bring with you for your island holiday:

  • sunscreen
  • a hat to shield you from the sun in and outside of the water
  • surf booties to walk over the reef
  • surf boards, wax, a spare leg-rope and fins
  • swim shorts, bikinis and rash shirts
  • snorkel and mask
  • books or magazines
  • a torch
  • a portable speaker
  • a re-usable water bottle
  • earplugs, as sleeping next to the ocean can be quite loud
  • a long sleeve shirt for cooler nights and extra sun protection
  • sneakers for walking around the island and riding a motorbike
  • medical and travel insurance

Is medical care accessible in Rote?

We recommend you purchase international medical and travel insurance as Rote Island is a remote place. There is a basic health care center in Nemberala that can deal with minor injuries and a small hospital in Ba’a but for more serious incidents you will be sent to Kupang (Timor). The Siloam hospital there has a good reputation.

Is Villa Tasi Family Friendly?

The white sand, warm water and swimming lagoon right in front of Villa Tasi is the perfect place for children to enjoy Rote island. Hours can be spent exploring the reef when the tide is out or playing in the gentle waves out front. The whole family will love cooling down in our saltwater pool. The platform build in on one end of the pool will let the little ones splash around all day in shallow water.

On request, we can put up a pool fence for peace of mind. Our stairs to the upstairs bedrooms are protected by gates.

A high chair for your baby can be provided as well. We can also get you in touch with a wonderful local nanny so you can focus on what you came to Rote for: Enjoying a relaxing vacation!
